This innovative and prestigious hall of residence has been built in close collaboration with St Edmund’s College, University of Cambridge, whose students now call it home.
Howard Osborne developed the scheme - demolishing a five storey 1970’s office building, which occupied a prominent position to the north west of the city centre, and replacing it with a 272 en-suite bedroom hall of residence with high-specification shared spaces and facilities throughout.
The new building is leased to the adjacent St Edmund’s College as part of an innovative funding agreement negotiated by Howard Osborne, which has seen Legal & General fund this prime purpose-built student accommodation investment. As part of the annuity income style deal, the freehold will eventually pass to St Edmund’s College.
The living accommodation has been specifically designed to meet the needs and well-being of the student and post graduate body, providing 199 large en-suite study bedrooms (of at least 16.9sqm) and 73 studio flats (with a minimum size of 23sqm). Clusters of eight rooms are grouped around fully equipped, generous shared kitchens and communal living, social and study spaces.
